Domain FAQ

We understand and appreciate that everyone's understanding of websites varies. Please see below for a list of our frequently asked questions that relate to putting a new SCRUMPY website live, whether you already have an existing site or are starting out from scratch.

What is a domain? - a domain is the address of a website, for example scrumpy.co.uk. Each domain is made up of a unique combination of letters and numbers which end in suffixes like .com or .co.uk.

I would like a new domain - our sister company ZTS are a domain registrar. If we have your Full Name, Contact Number, Email & Address, we can register a domain for you and manage it on your behalf.

How do I choose a domain? - First, you need to see if what you have in mind is available with a domain checker. If you’re struggling for naming ideas, take a look at our guide that discusses what you should be considering.

How much do domains cost? - This depends on the domain suffix and for how long you would like to register it for. Typically a domain like a .co.uk would be chargeable at £15 (plus VAT) for a 2 year registration.

What is included? - One domain is included as part of the SCRUMPY subscription (registration and ongoing renewals) to all customers paying for their website and software solutions. If you would like more than one website, or multiple domains pointing at the same website, then these would not be included.

Which suffix should I use? - We recommend that if you are a UK business mainly targeting customers in the UK that you use a .co.uk. If however, you are targeting a more international client base, then a .com may be more appropriate. Other suffixes do exist, however may cause confusion if someone has to manually type it in.

I already have a domain - During the onboarding process, your new website will be built upon a temporary domain, such as demo.myscrumpy.co.uk. This will not affect or compromise your existing set up and allows for your new site to be built in tandem.

Does SCRUMPY charge for web hosting? - No. On both our Free Lite sites for single property owners, as well as our Full websites and software system, we do not charge you for additional hosting, nor is it required from an external provider.

Can I transfer my domain? - Yes, if you would like to consolidate costs and move everything to one place, you can transfer your domain to SCRUMPY's sister company ZTS. Whilst we do not charge for this, other providers or web developers may impose a transfer fee.

What happens when I want to go live? - Let us know! Ideally a week or so in advance, so we can get in touch with your provider and existing web developer (if applicable) to start making preparations and put in place any preliminary changes that may be necessary.

How long does it take? - How long is a piece of string? This depends entirely on your existing set up and all parties involved acting in a timely manner. It may be the case that we hold all control (if we registered your domain and email) and can do so within a day. However it may be a case of waiting for others to implement their part.

Can you do this for me? - We are more than happy to arrange the going live process on your behalf. Again it depends on your provider and set up, however usually if we are given access to your username and control panel, are able to make all the necessary changes to put your new site live.

What if I want to make the changes myself? - We can provide you with the relevant instructions so you can update your domain name settings (DNS) with the relevant CNAME, Root A Record and if applicable DKIM Tokens & SPF Records. Please see here for our guide.

What if I want to stay with my provider? - No worries, if you would like to keep your domain or web hosting elsewhere you can. We'll just provide you with the relevant information to make your SCRUMPY website point to your domain.
