Email FAQ

Typically there are not often any complications when using email for personal use. Yet there is a lot more to consider when using an email for your business and to send automated mail from your website. Please read on for our frequently asked questions related to email and your SCRUMPY website.

What is a business email? - Unlike an email address provided by the likes of Hotmail or Gmail, a business email doesn’t carry your provider's branding and instead is associated with your website's domain. For example, help@scrumpy.co.uk

Do I need a business email? - No, it is however something we always recommend. It can allow you to be taken more seriously as a business, offer greater reliability and carry your own branding instead of someone else's. This in depth article discusses in more detail, with suggestions if you are considering having one https://www.scrumpy.co.uk/blog/business-email

What is a forwarder? - Similar to a business email, a forwarder can be set up against your domain, to forward to another email address. To an outsider, it may appear that you have an info@scrumpy.co.uk address, however this would just be a front, with all mail being sent to another email, such as dan@scrumpy.co.uk.

Can I send with a forwarder? - It’s worth pointing out that a forwarder does just that, it forwards an email onto another inbox and does not allow you to send or reply as that forwarding address. Creating a forwarder does not also create a new inbox and instead just passes incoming mail to another location.

What is best for email deliverability? - When using the SCRUMPY booking system and features like the broadcast tool, your website will be sending out emails via the email address you have associated with your website. We can only guarantee 100% accuracy and deliverability for business email that is verified against your site.

What is email verification? - In order for an email to be sent from your SCRUMPY website, you will be required to associate that email address to your website. We will send a verification email which will be addressed from Amazon SES (the platform’s email server) and all you have to do is click the link within to confirm.

Why may some email providers not work? - If for example you are using bookings@btinternet.com as your email, for your website that is theholidaycottage.co.uk, then it can be very obvious to some providers that your email is posing as and isn’t actually the same as your domain. Some providers will find this suspicious and it may sometimes result in mail not arriving or being sent to the junk folder.

How much does a business email cost? - Our sister company ZTS can offer business email, such as an info@yourdomain with Google Workspace which costs £70 (plus VAT) a year. This is the only mailbox option that we offer as it is by far the most reliable and Google are the industries leading provider.

What is Google Workspace? - Formerly known as G-Suite (and before that Google Apps) is a great value suite of tools supplied for businesses by Google, that provides a whole package of online applications, cloud storage and business email. You can find out more here https://workspace.google.com/

Can I use an alternative email provider? - You are more than welcome to use any business email provider, or even set up Google Workspace yourself. Please let us know if this is the case, as we will need to send instructions of setting up the correct DKIM records for your domain and email.
