Email troubleshooting

Are you having trouble with your email? Whether you're having issues sending or receiving emails, try following this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose the problem and find a solution.

General Troubleshooting

  • Send a test email to another email account that you have access to, to make sure the email sends and is received
  • Also try doing the reverse, to check if your email account can receive an email
  • Check your spam/junk folder regularly to check for any mail that isn't arriving in your inbox
  • Configure the settings of your inbox to prevent certain email addresses from arriving in your spam/junk folder
  • Ensure that you have access to a network, and check that the network is operating as expected

DKIM

One of the best ways of improving email deliverability is the usage of a DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail). The DKIM is added to a domain's control panel and it ensures that the email came from the domain that was specified, by checking if the email has been authorized by the owner of the domain. This is also a great security measure that prevents the likes of phishing, email spam, and man-in-the-middle attacks.

At SCRUMPY we provide 3 different DKIMs to ensure the best deliverability for automated emails coming from your website. However, we can only add and manage DKIM's if you are using a business email with your website's domain, rather than other domains such as @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, @yahoo.co.uk etc. This means if we manage the domain we can set up DKIM's ourselves, otherwise, we can provide you with the relevant information that you can add.

Email Forwarding

Another troubleshooting technique you can use is email forwarding, which is a method that allows you to resend a delivered email to a different email address, or potentially several email addresses. This is especially useful when you have multiple email addresses stated on your website, but only one main one checked regularly.

Business Email

Finally, it's vital that you are using a business email rather than a personal one. The usage of personal emails is not only unprofessional but also exposes the business to a number of security and privacy risks, which can be used to infect your computer, steal your data, and cause issues with your email.
